My Best Grammar Plan :)

PLAN Nº13 /DATE: 4TH JUNE / TRAINEE: ZACNUN, ARIANA / LESSON AIM: BY THE END OF THE 40 MINUTE LESSON SS WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND USE INFINITIVES FOR PURPOSE.

IN
1.1 The T will write the following question on the bb:
WHY DID YOU PHONE YOUR FRIEND?
and she will elicit some possible answers: e.g Because I wanted to talk to her.

She will make some more questions like: Why do you meet your friends? / Why do you study?
The T will write ss answers on the board.

1.1 SS will answer the questions proposed by the T.

PRESENTATION
2.1 The T will ask ss if they remember what infinitive verbs are. If they do not remember she will tell them that they are verbs that are not conjugated, for example go, read, listen. She will elicit more examples.

2.2 The T will ask ss to have a look at the conversation they read the previous lesson and try to find examples of infinitive verbs.

2.3 The T will ask ss to find and underline in the conversation the 2 sentences that appear in the grammar box. (He was holding my arm to help me, I have to stay here to look after Johnny)
2.1 SS will say what they remember about infinitive verbs and they will propose examples.





2.2 SS will re-read the conversation they have dealt with the previous class and try to find examples of infinitive verbs.

Meaning
3.1 The T will work with the sentences ss have underlined in 2.3. She will ask ss:
WHY WAS JOHNNY HOLDING PAULO’S HANDS?
WHY DOES STORM HAS TO STAY WITH JOHNNY?
The expected answers are: TO HELP PAULO/ TO LOOK AFTER JOHNNY.
Then the T will elicit the meaning of purpose. If ss do not know she will tell them that it is something you want to achieve.

3.2 The T will ask ss to have a look at the grammar box and she will ask ss to identify the purpose in the 2 examples given. (to help-to look after)

Form
3.4 The T will ask ss to read the grammar box which states the rule for infinitives of purpose.
The T will ask ss how do we express purpose in English. If they do not know she will ask them to look at the grammar box to see if they realise the TO-INF VERB form.

3.5 The T will come back to ss’ answers that the T wrote on the bb in 1.1 and she will ask ss to reformulate the answers by using the form to express purpose.

3.1 SS will tell what they know about PURPOSE.













3.2 SS will have a look at the grammar box and will try to identify the purpose in the 2 examples given.



3.4 SS will try to say how we express purpose in English. If they do not know they will have a look at the grammar box to realise the form.




3.5 SS will formulate their answers again by using the infinitives of purpose.

4.1 The T will ask ss to do ex 5 on page 53 in which ss are expected to find the purpose of the actions in the conversation.

4.2 The T will ask ss to do ex 6 in which ss will join 2 sentences in only 1 using the infinitives of purpose.
4.1 SS will do ex 5 in which they will complete the actions with the purpose taken from the conversation.

4.2 SS will do ex 6 in which they will join 2 sentences in 1 using the infinitives of purpose.

  • Using the new grammatical item in a controlled way.

PRACTICE
5.1 Speaking activity: The T will ask ss to do ex 7 in which they will get in pairs and think about what to do in the situation given.
5.1 SS will be suggesting what to do in the situation given in ex 7.
